About Egypt
The Arab Republic of Egypt covers an area of just over 1 million sq km of which 96.4% is desert. The main language is Arabic but English is widely spoken in the tourist areas along with a number of other European languages including German, Italian and Russian.

Egypt has long been on the tourist trail for visitors from all over the world who have been lured by Egypt’s long and colourful past – its pharaonic treasures in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan have always created much interest with the outside world.

Until quite recently, visitors to Egypt only came for the antiquities relating to Egypt’s majestic past. However, in the 1960s and 1970s a few intrepid visitors started to discover the scuba-diving opportunities offered by the Egyptian Red Sea. Egypt is home to the most northerly coral reefs in the world and has some of the best dive sites on the planet!

Today, the scuba diving industry and the coastal resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada are well established to cater for thousands of visitor arrivals each week. Other resorts, too, have subsequently developed and continue to be up-and coming tourist destinations e.g. Taba in the Sinai and Marsa Alam and El Gouna on the mainland.
